Celebrating my journey of motherhood

A Letter to my Little Sister

A Letter to my Little Sister

My Human Diary,

The best thing about having a sister was that I always had a friend. A friend who would stand by me for now and forever. I have seen you grow from the time you were a little bundle of joy to a person you are today.

You are my human diary because you know me in and out, you know my strength, you know my weakness, you know my darkest phase of life and you also know my best memorable days. I have immense pleasure to shout out and say you have been through all of it with me hand in hand.

I have always been insecure of you getting more love than me, you being taller than me, you being prettier than me. But, I am so proud of you today and may you stay happy forever.

You can count on me any day. A hand you can hold onto, a shoulder to rest and my ear always open for all your grievances, vent and excitement. Never think that I have another family to take care and my love for you has reduced. There is always a place in my heart for you.

You love my daughter like your own. She loves you more than me. I cannot express in words the bond you share.

An ode for you dear sister:

You will know when I am sad, You will know I am glad,

You will stand against the world to save me from the bad.

You are my first daughter for ever and ever,

I cannot see you heartbroken, no never!

I fight with you all day when you are back home,

but I miss you when you go out to roam.

We have secrets between us and promises to keep,

Come what may I will never let you weep.

You have made sure that the trust has to grow,

this poem is for the world to know.

I hereby confess how much I love you,

You are a perfect sister one of the few.

How I wish we hop on to a fairy land and live in a bubble,

You are my special kind of double.

Our paths may change as life goes along,

but our bond as sisters will remain forever strong.

-Mamatha Dilip

I am not exaggerating my feelings. Today, I have missed you more than any other day and that is what made me write this down. I have never expressed my love for you in 20 years, I owe you an apology for hurting you intentionally and unintentionally. There were days I hated you and I have cursed god for bringing you in my life. All I pray and hope is that the almighty shouldn’t have heard my prayers then. I am truly blessed to have you as my sister and only time can make a person realize another persons value.

Do you have a sibling too and have you ever expressed how much you love them?

Do let me know your views in the comment section below,

Until next time…

Sayonara!

  • This so so beautiful Mamatha. I have one elder sister and I feel the same way you do. Sisters are our first girl friend and they change so many roles for us. Sometimes they are our play mate, other times they are our pillar of strength but they give their 100% in each role.

    Beautiful post!!
